Longwarry Community Garden & Orchard
Longwarry Community Garden & Orchard is situated between Longwarry Primary School and Longwarry Hall car park. Entry is via Kennedy Street. The garden infrastructure was built with funds from a partnership between the State Government, Longwarry Public Hall Committee and the Longwarry & District Lions Club. It is a Lions Club service project and is coordinated by the Lions Club and supported by an enthusiastic group of community volunteers. We work with the Longwarry Primary School and the Labertouche Men’s Shed have built a children’s garden bed that the student’s care for. The garden has a Community Sustainability Program that includes monthly workshops that teach skills in propagation, horticulture, garden art, urban agriculture and focuses on encouraging domestic food production, sustainability and healthy eating. Our volunteers have a stall at the Longwarry Market each month where they sell gifts and produce to raise funds for the garden. A weekly mosaic workshop is held where art work is produced for the garden.
Every Wednesday from 5pm to 7pm during Daylight Saving we hold our Twilight in the Garden where we water and weed, plant and harvest and catch up to share our ideas and our excess produce and plants. We hold working bees, as advised on our face book page and monthly workshops. Everyone is welcome. Join us in the garden, come to our workshops, share your knowledge, gain new skills and enjoy the company.
